StorNext FX and FX2

Quantum’s StorNext FX is the ideal software solution for Apple’s® Xsan™ and Xsan 2™ customers looking to increase productivity and finish projects faster within multi-operating system environments. For time-sensitive environments like broadcast and post-production, StorNext FX and Xsan work together to enable storage consolidation and rapid file sharing across ingest, editing, and distribution systems.

Quantum offers two versions of StorNext FX - FX2 for Xsan 2 environments and FX 1.4 for Xsan 1.4.x environments.

With StorNext FX, it is simple and economical to share Apple Promise RAID storage and files between Mac® OS X applications and applications running on Linux®, UNIX® and Windows® hosts. The combination of StorNext FX and Xsan eliminates three key factors that impede content creation and distribution: time-consuming file movement over the network, purchase and management of storage volumes for every server and the need to create separate repositories for Xsan and non-Xsan systems. For video production houses or any creative agency tackling large files, this translates to extreme time savings, storage cost savings and the ability to manage and complete several different projects within tight deadlines.

Balancing data access with bandwidth constraints. With the wide acceptance of online and remote access technologies, end-users have come to expect high-performance access—24x7x365. However, LAN bandwidth bottlenecks and “sneaker-netting” of files can slow data access. StorNext FX enables you to free up network bandwidth, eliminate passing of FireWire drives and provide SAN-speed direct access to files across many different OS platforms.

Support for heterogeneous environments is vital. In most Xsan environments, there are a certain amount of specialized applications that do not run on Mac OS X but are critical for completing projects. With StorNext FX, Xsan systems can share data out to those specialized applications running on Linux, Windows, and other platform hosts without having to create additional storage pools or infrastructure. StorNext and Xsan fill the need for a common file system across multiple storage and OS platforms, allowing users to save money and finish projects at a faster pace by leveraging a single, consolidated storage environment.

True data management combines data access with data protection. Xsan environments looking to reduce long term storage costs can upgrade their Xsan environment to StorNext Storage Manager. StorNext Storage Manager allows organizations to archive less frequently used data on to lower cost storage tiers. Using StorNext’s iMover technology, data is transparently moved from primary storage to secondary storage. At the same time, a protection copy of every file can be generated for offsite storage and disaster recovery. Location is virtualized so applications never have to worry about where a data file resides, it always appears in the same location. The result is a reliable, automated system that frees up staff time, better utilizes storage resources, and increases your data integrity and safety.
